Celebrate the Games
was the motto of the first ever gamescom in Cologne.
It has been a great celebration and a great success
as the new gamescom fair goes straight to the top
as the world's largest games fair. New level of visitor
numbers and internationality, Industry, specialist
and private visitors enthused by the trade fair and
festival. The premiere of the new leading trade fair
for interactive entertainment and games - gamescom
- has been a complete success. 245,000 visitors came
to the Cologne site from 19 - 23 August to experience
and try out game novelties provided by 458 exhibiting
companies from 31 countries. Straight away this makes
gamescom the largest games fair in the world and with
a ratio of around 44 percent, internationally extremely
successful. Next gamescom only in Cologne will be
from 18. to 22. August 2010.
This of course was an
event not to be missed by the 80Days project that
presented a new dimension of learning with computer
games on its gamescom booth in hall 8. The 80Days
project "immersed" itself into the big crowd
of gamers to present and to discuss the new great
opportunities of Technology Enhanced Learning for
our information societies. After many discussions
with professionals, teachers, parents, politicians,
children of various ages and all types of gamers we
received the encouraging message: Please make it happen,
we want to play it! This confirms our mission statement
saying: „Many want to play but learning is a
duty to everybody. Let‘s make the best out of
this“ Or like one of the gamescom motto songs
shouted out: „It‘s the information age,
brother!“
|
Furthermore, the 80Days project conducted a survey with 87
qualified interviews/questionnaires in the group of 10-14
aged youngsters to be evaluated and integrated into the 80Days
research on games and learning.
